**What is the difference between 800, 866, 877 and 888 numbers?**Nothing. Each of the prefixes are treated the exact same way for toll free numbers.

**Why are there so many different toll free number prefixes?**800 numbers were introduced in 1967 and as more and more businesses claimed them, the available numbers simply ran out. To meet demand, the FCC released 888 and 877 numbers and eventually 866 numbers in 2000.
